What is Craniosacral Therapy? Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle and profound hands-on therapy that assists the body's natural capacity for self-repair. It is a gentle non-invasive technique to release stresses, blockages and contractions in any area of the body, allowing energy to flow freely and the body to return to a state of balance. In a typical Craniosacral session, you will usually lie (or sometimes sit) fully-clothed on a treatment couch. The therapist will make contact by placing their hands lightly on your body and tuning in to what is happening by ‘listening’ with their hands. The work can address physical aches and pains, acute and chronic disease, emotional or psychological disturbances, or simply help to develop well-being, health and vitality. Craniosacral therapy is so gentle that it is suitable for babies, children, and the elderly, as well as adults and people with acute conditions. The initial consultation takes approximately an hour. The first few minutes are spent discussing any particular conditions and the remainder is hands-on treatment. Follow up treatment (if needed) is usually scheduled for one week later. Visits tend to become less frequent as your symptoms improve. After the treatment your body may feel different or tired while it takes its own time to re-adjust, and it is recommended to stick to gentle activities for an hour or two afterwards.
